Before I post the interest rates going back to 1971 I want to say that in 1988 when I bought my home I paid around 10.5 – 11.%. Today the rates are half that — but am I in better shape? Is America in better shape today than it was 20 years ago? I think not. In my opinion its far better to have an interest rate that rewards savers and those on fixed incomes like the rate I paid 20 years ago than today’s discounted rates which have dipped under 5%.
Why?
Because today’s low rates simply reflect the dismal state of our economy. Its far better to have 10% rates and stable employment then 5% rates with the economy collapsing from sea to shining sea.
Here are the RATES taken from the Federal Reserve Website:

I was interested to read your comments. I said the exact same thing a couple of weeks ago. You are so right. When rates were greater atg least we knew the rules of the mortgage companies. Today we have low rates but the rules are changing faster than we can even write an offer. I remember a time when it took 3 months to get an appraisal. We could deal with that too. But the rules need to be made and then played by. Sometimes I feel we are playing football only to learn it was poker. We just need to know how to direct customers/clients. It is not so much the rate that is the problem as it is the rules are changing.
We are on a wing and a prayer.
