ABC30 reports that an agent discovered dozens of customer files in the company’s dumpster. According to their report “many of the files contained clients’ sensitive information, like checking account numbers.” You can bet there were signatures and social security numbers as well.

Real Estate Brokers are required to keep customer files for 3 years. After that, they can dispose of them. In my opinion, there only way to properly dispose old customer files is to shred them or burn them - with shredding being the most practical.
